Antarang works with youth through the most vulnerable ages of 14 – 25 years. The Right to Education ends at 14 and India’s child labour laws permit children above the age of 14 to work in certain non hazardous industries. At the same time, the organised sector does not employ anyone below the age of 18. As a result, children who drop out of education (48% at the high school stage) end up in the often exploitative informal sector.
To break this cycle, Antarang works with students in the crucial 14 – 18 year age group through the CareerAware program. The program provides career guidance through a structured and intensive tool which gives students clarity of career direction, thus encouraging them to stay in education until they are 18 years old.
The CareeReady program trains youth in the 17 years + age group in core employability skills, connects them to career opportunities of their choice and continues to mentor them until they integrate well into the organised sector workforce.
